AUTOBIOGRAPHY: Christian W. Bergmans
I'm a graduate of Portland State University in my home town of Portland Oregon. I have worked in theatre, video, and film production since I was in high school. After high school I started out working as a set designer. Now, I earn money to fund our movies by working in the video business in Portland, mostly as a camera man. What's cool is that I have access to equipment because I work in the field, and I can borrow most of what we need to make movies with. I call our film company FlashLight Pictures (named after my first film). I write films I know I will direct, and so they are carefully planned according to what is within our budget range to shoot. The Passage, completed in December of 1999 is my sixth short film. It was meant as part of a four part film project that myself, my cousin; Eric Martens, and two other friends, Jonathan Dick and Ryan Schaulfler, worked on during the summer of 1999. Each person wrote and directed their own short using the same crew, which was mostly comprised of the four of us. I'm the first to have finished mine. Each film is autonomous. The only link they share is the same actors, but all the stories are completely different. I have worked on several other projects with my friends as well. My friend Keith Kibbee did the music for The Passage, which took four months to complete. Keith and I, who've been friends since middle school, have collaborated on two other films together: Roadkill and Bunkbeds. The most current project we're working on is a full length science fiction feature titled Ratstar.
